BIOGRAPHY

Annelieke van Mens was born on 16th July 1979. As we all well remember, a run-of-the-mill summer's day just over 20 degrees Celsius with spots of rain and cloud, somewhere in suburbs of Hilversum. After a few hectic years of alternating between working, studying and volunteering, she hopes to graduate this year.

Since 2001 she has been performing her poetry, and in the academic year of 2003/2004 she was allowed to call herself, well actually that year's still running, so she still is, poet-in-residence of the University of Groningen. She wishes to use this year to involve fellow students in poetry, both through performing and via poetry magazine Krakatau of which she has been co-editor since 2002.

Van Mens is the fifth poet-in-residence of the RuG. Her predecessors were Daniël Dee & Petra Else Jekel (2000/2001), Gertjan Laan (2001/2002) and Guido van der Wolk (2002/2003).
