BIOGRAPHY

Daniël Dee, torn roughly from his dear mother's womb on that calm, cloudless and sun-drenched tropical autumn day (it was all of 32 degrees Celsius) on the 12th November 1975 in South Africa. As the child of an average family his greatest ambition was to become Batman.

He understood at a later date that this would be utterly impossible, for the simple fact there was already such a being. Together with Petra Else Jekel he was poet-in-residence of the University of Groningen 2000-2001 and column writer for Radio Rijnmond (Rotterdam). Dee is an editor of poetry magazine Krakatau.

Alongside many magazine publications he published the volume Waardeloos (Worthless; 2+2=5 Publicaties, Groningen), after having published the anthology Startschot (Starting Shot) there, together with Tsead Bruinja, Petra Else Jekel and Ramona Maramis. He has also issued a vanity press volume Mijn Glimlach Zit Vast In De Tijdzone November (My Smile Got Stuck in November's Time Zone). After the shared residency with Jekel at the University of Groningen, he published the volume Dubbelblind (Double Blind; 2001). Dee performed at Poetry International 2000, the Lowlands Festival 2000, Literatuurfestival de Wintertuin 2001 and at the Poëziemarathon 2002. Poets he admires are e.g. Tom Lanoye and Foquenbroch.

On 18th November 2001 an anthology was published, entitled Vanuit de lucht - de eerste generatie dichters uit de 21ste eeuw (Out of The Air – the first generation of poets of the 21st century; Passage), of which he was the general editor.

On 8th November 2002, just under a year later, the same publisher issued forth his debut volume 3D - schetsjes van onvermogen (3D sketches of incompetence).

On National Poetry Day he and Tsead Bruinja will present the anthology edited by them under the title of Kutgedichten (Poetry Cunts; Passage).
