Breukers wrote his first poems at the start of the Eighties, influenced by the work of Adriaan Roland Holst, who he is still partial to. It would take until 1990 for him to make his debut, in magazine De Tweede Ronde. He was to publish in many more magazines, such as Maatstaf, Optima, Hollands Maandblad, Bunker Hill, de Poëziekrant and Zwart IJs. Breukers lives with visual artist Nicole Montagne, in Utrecht, and has two daughters: Martha (2000) and (2003).
