BIOGRAPHY

On that warm Friday afternoon of 7th May 1971, at just about 4 o’clock, the world was enlivened by the appearance of Diann van Faassen. ‘Poetry is the meandering path between the narrow and the wide lane’, is a much-cited statement by this poet, who claims she writes solely to complete her consummation process.

Diann was born to the world as Dianne Hilde van Faassen and has since then dropped the final 'e', as she has successfully completed the first stage of the course 'Becoming who you really are'. Ultimately the D. wil suffice, when she has passed through all the other stages, at least. This is only expected to take a few more decennia.

She made her debut with the volume Driemaaldaags (Three Times Daily; Vers en Gezond, The Hague, 1991). Since then she has been on stage frequently. In 1998 Toverfietsje (Magical bike) appeared, that was followed in 1999 by Altijd naar de kermis (Always to the fair), both of which were vanity editions.

Since 1988 she has lived in The Hague where she organises literary events, poetry workshops and is an editorial member of 'Bordelaise Literair'. As a poet she has become involved in the poetry pop group D.O.M.

Her poetry is included in the anthologies Van Haagse dichters die voorbijgaan (The Hague poets in passing; Bzztôh, 2001) and in Vanuit de lucht (Out of the Air; Passage, 2001).
