Emily Dickinson, postuum Amerikaans medewerker aan de Rottend Staal Nieuwsbrief, leefde van 1830-1886, maar vraag niet hoe. Op haar dertigste sloot ze zich vanwege een uitzichtloze liefde op in haar kamertje en schreef ruim 1700 gedichten, die eerst na haar dood gepubliceerd werden.
