BIOGRAPHY

Adriaan Bontebal is best known for his short stories, with which he renders his audiences breathless time and again. Although he was born in The Hague in 1952, escaped the flooding disaster of 1953 in the nick of time and had to say goodbye to one of his legs in a motorbike accident, this hasn’t stopped him from performing regularly all around the country. He regularly reported on the goings-on in his neighbourhood Schilderswijk in The Hague on VPRO radio 5 (now Radio 747 AM)and his theatre shows with Sjaak Bral invariably sold out. At the First Literary Freefight (9-9-1999) in Utrecht he was the absolute audience favourite. In March 2001, together with Harry Zevenbergen and Marinus van der Marel, he published the anthology Van Haagse dichters die voorbijgaan (Poets of The Hague passing by) with Bzztôh publishers.
